The GP Zoo

Our public read of who owns Australian general practice.

The GP Zoo is a data set of corporate and independent ownership of Australian general practice. It tracks 6,393 nationally, including 340 group operators, 2,041 group-owned sites and 391 large independent practices, with who owns what, who is buying, and a weekly scan of the moves that matter.

It is built for operators planning where to grow, sellers deciding who to sell to, suppliers deciding who to approach, investors sizing the sector, and researchers who need a reliable ownership picture. The underlying data supports our commissioned research and is the backbone to our business matching service, Proxeno.

The GP business deal review

Who bought what, at what price, and what it means whichever side of the table you sit on. The deal record, the disclosed comparable set and the platform multiple band, the buyer universe and what each buyer tests. In July 2026 we began tracking new practice openings and sales, building an index of a market that is largely opaque today. It will take time to fill out, so treat this as an early edition.

Data and analysis on request

The practice data sets support work that is not published: catchment-level analysis, ownership mapping for a specific segment, scored target lists and market sizing for a service or product. Organisations commission this as a defined piece of work.

Knowledge systems

The same research library sits behind Humphrey and answers questions on contracts, finance, workforce, premises, governance and regulation in Australian general practice, citing its sources in every answer. We are building a second knowledge system for practice management, so that the operational knowledge held by experienced managers is available to the people who need it, and to the AI tools practices are already using.
