Medius Match

Through Medius Match, we help general practices find GPs and connect GPs, clinicians and consultants with professional roles and projects in primary care. This includes GP positions in general practice, board and clinical lead roles, advisory work, research and Medius consulting projects.

We consider where people's experience could be useful and who they could work with. We consider their skills and judgement alongside their interests, values and aspirations.

We review possible matches, explain the reasons and make an introduction when both sides agree. There is no fee to either side.

What we match on

We compare what a person brings and wants from their work with what a practice, organisation or project needs and offers.

The personThe practice, organisation or project
Skills, qualifications, experience and judgementThe expertise needed and the responsibilities involved
Interests, aspirations and the work they want to contribute toThe work available and the opportunities to contribute or develop
Values, preferred ways of working and support they seekHow people work together, make decisions and support one another
Availability, preferred location and working arrangementsThe time, location and arrangements involved

For practices seeking GPs, this includes the type and breadth of medicine, the team around the GP and how the practice works with its doctors. We compare these with the GP's clinical interests, preferred arrangements and aspirations.

Our match note sets out the reasons for a possible introduction and the points still to discuss. You decide whether to proceed.

Find GPs for your practice

If you own or manage a general practice and are looking for a GP, register your practice with Medius Match. We email you questions about the position, the medicine your practice supports and how you work with your GPs.

Tell us about your clinical interest areas, the team around each GP and the opportunities available at the practice. These can include home and nursing home visits, hospital work, working in a training practice or an opportunity to buy into the business.

GPs tell us the medicine they want to practise, how broad they want their work to be and what they want from their next position. We compare their answers with what your practice needs and offers. When we identify a possible match, we explain the reasons so both sides can decide whether to be introduced.

For GPs, clinicians and consultants

Tell us what you want from your next position, the experience you bring and the work you want to contribute to. You can register for practice work, board and committee seats, clinical lead roles, advisory work, assessor and mentoring roles, or work with the Medius Global bureau on consulting projects, tenders and pitches.

If you are looking for practice work, we can also identify practices to consider using the information we collect through GPZoo. We distinguish those practice options from positions registered with Medius Match.

For organisations

Companies, health technology firms, not-for-profits, associations, industry bodies and government organisations can register a position. We email you questions about the work, the expertise needed, the time involved and where it is based.

We compare the position with the people registered with Medius Match and introduce both sides when both agree.

The three-legged stool

We ask you to name the parts of your life you want your work to support. You might name family, your practice, learning or community. We call these the legs of your stool and ask which needs strengthening.

We consider those priorities alongside what a position offers and what it asks of you in time, travel and responsibilities.

What GPs want from their working lives, and the reasons for Medius Match

A GP-practice example

This is an illustration. The GP and practice are fictional.

A practice is looking for a GP interested in broad general practice, with a focus on chronic disease and mental health. It describes regular clinical discussions and opportunities for GPs to contribute to practice-wide decisions.

A GP registers an interest in the same areas of medicine and wants to contribute to decisions. They name clinical work, learning and community as priorities, with learning the one they want to strengthen.

We would explain the shared clinical interests and the opportunity for discussion with colleagues. We would also identify what still needs checking, including the GP's availability, the support offered and whether the clinical discussions provide the learning they want. Both sides would decide whether to be introduced.

Public roles

We also scan public listings each week for advisory, assessor, leadership and other professional opportunities. Registered people who opt in can receive relevant listings by email. For these roles, you contact the organisation directly.

Work with Medius

We develop and lead advisory, digital health, research and practice improvement projects. Through Medius Match, we bring together people for the Medius Global bureau to contribute to consulting engagements, tenders and pitches.

We consider your expertise, interests, values and availability when identifying project opportunities. We ask before putting your name forward and agree your role, scope and fee before work begins. A Medius lead coordinates the team and the client relationship.
